Father Found Guilty In Connection With 3-Year-Old Son Who Shot, Killed Himself

A Knox County man could spend more than three years in prison after being found guilty in connection with his 3-year-old son's death.

According to the Knox County Prosecutor's Office, Joshua E. Heagren was found guilty of endangering children and negligent homicide.

On May 28, 2012, Heagren's 3-year-old won was playing when he found his father's .45 caliber handgun and shot himself in the head. The young boy, Lucas Heagren, was taken to Akron Children's Hospital, where he died the next day.

A judge deferred sentencing pending the completion of a pre-sentence investigation report. Heagren faces a maximum prison sentence of 36 months on the endangering children conviction and a maximum sentence of six months on the negligent homicide conviction.
