A man is being charged with trying to rob a UDF gas station in northeast Columbus.

Authorities said Johnny Lee Hazelwood threatened the clerk with a knife at a UDF on Karl Road around 9:20 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 7.

Hazelwood, 34, allegedly jumped on the counter when the clerk did not hand over any money.

The clerk retreated to a back room at the store and a co-worker called police.

That's when investigators say Hazelwood left the store empty-handed.

Hazelwood was arrested around 2 a.m. on Sunday. He faces aggravated robbery charges.
