A man was rescued Sunday night after he fell into Buckeye Lake.
Police said the man was walking his dog near a dock around 7:30 p.m. when the pet fell into the water. The owner fell into the cold lake when he tried to grab the dog.
The man was able to pull himself out of the water, but could not move any further.
"He was unable to get out back through the dock, so he broke his way through the ice to the jetty where he pulled himself up on it. And that was where I located him at," Buckeye Lake police officer Jeffrey Vermaaten said.
Firefighters and paramedics responded and transported the man to Licking Memorial Hospital.
There was no word on the man's condition Sunday night.
The dog was taken home after police officers rescued it from the water.
"The dog was actually stuck in the water at the spillway gate. We were able to get a rope around the dog and pull him away from the spillway over to an area where we could retrieve him out of the water," Officer Vermaaten said.
