A 23-year-old man was charged in connection with the shooting death of a Licking County teenager.

According to The Newark Advocate, Cody Williams was arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter on Tuesday after admitting to shooting and killing 19-year-old James Ballman on Saturday.

The shooter told investigators he had been drinking around the time the gun went off in an apartment near Hebron Saturday night. Licking County Sheriff’s deputies said they believed the shooting was unintentional.

The Advocate reported that the manslaughter charge would require proof that Williams caused the death of Ballman while committing another crime. The county prosecutor said that having a firearm while intoxicated is a crime.
