A 29-year-old man is being charged with burglary and animal cruelty after admitting to stabbing a pit bull three times

The Athens County Sheriff’s Office said that on Saturday, a deputy officer responded to a reported pit bull bite incident in Glouser.

Charles Dearth said that he received injuries to his hand, arm and stomach after staying at his girlfriend’s residence the night before.

After a personal argument, Dearth wanted to use the phone to call his dad to come get him, but according to a written statement from the Athens County Sheriff’s Office, his girlfriend wouldn’t give it to him.

Dearth stated that he grabbed the phone from her hands, and that her pit bull started attacking him.  When the dog wouldn’t relent, Dearth said he stabbed the animal three times with his knife.

In an ensuing investigation, the deputy learned Dearth had broken into the residence the night before, but the residents were afraid to call the authorities.

Dearth had also posted on Facebook about his intentions to hurt the animal, which he stabbed while it was in submission, sheriff’s officials said.
