A mother and her two children were displaced after a fire gutted their Dering Ave. home in south Columbus Friday night.

Arson investigators told 10TV that they don’t know what started the fire at this point.

No one was inside the home at the time. A dog and cat were saved and taken to an animal hospital at Ohio State.

The Red Cross is helping the mother and children with temporary housing.

One witness saw the fire as he drove by and knocked on the door because he was afraid someone might be inside.
