Circleville authorities are charging a man with inducing panic after he left a backgammon case at a gas station, prompting evacuations.

Authorities connected Christopher Hoover to the case through the credit card he used at the pump at the Speedway on North Court St.

Police said Hoover acted suspiciously as he set the backgammon case next to the gas pump.

Evacuations were ordered at various businesses on Tuesday while police investigated. No injuries were reported.
