State Lawmaker Wants Off-Duty Law Enforcement Officials To Substitute Teach

UPDATED: Tuesday January 29, 2013 6:56 AM

A central Ohio Congressman has a plan to put off-duty officials in classrooms.

Republican Rep. Pat Tiberi said that he plans to introduce a bill in coming weeks that would allow substitute teaching wages to be tax exempt for law enforcement officials.

He said that the bill would not mandate the use of off-duty officers but would be an option for schools to have more highly trained armed officers in schools.

Tiberi said that his proposal also addresses the reported shortages of substitute teachers.
