Authorities seized nearly 100 dogs from a home they said featured a severe case of animal hoarding.

The dogs were removed from a home on U.S. Route 40 in Tipp City outside of Dayton.

Volunteers had to help Miami County Animal Control officers catch the dogs and move them to the local fairgrounds.

The woman living at the home told authorities that she no longer could take care of the animals because she was hospitalized.

“They were all inside, in crates,” said Marcia Doncaster, director of the Miami County Animal Shelter. “Some of them were running loose. She had some of her friends come over and try to help her while she was in the hospital. It’s just overwhelming.”

Animal control officials said that the dogs will be checked by veterinarians and then will be up for adoption.
