Volunteer Firefighter Charged In Connection With Lancaster Restaurant Arson

A man turned himself in to police on Thursday after he allegedly set a restaurant on fire during business hours.

According to Lancaster police, Robert Steiner, a volunteer firefighter with Hocking Township, turned himself in to the Fairfield County Municipal Court.

A warrant for Steiner's arrest was issued on Wednesday. He is charged with aggravated arson.

According to police, 35-year-old Steiner set the fire at the Fiesta Tropicana Mexican restaurant, located at 1236 N. Memorial Dr., at 7:52 p.m. on Jan. 5.

The fire occurred during business hours.

Steiner was out on bond on Thursday.

According to the Hocking Township Fire Department, Steiner had just completed his 1-year probationary period after completing his volunteer fire training.

He currently is on administrative leave because of the "situation."
