A judge has granted a motion for a convicted killer to withdraw his guilty plea in a 1988 murder.

Glenn Tinney is serving a life sentence for the death of a Mansfield man.

Without any witnesses being called or evidence presented, Tinney was convicted of murdering Ted White based solely on Tinney’s confession.

Tinney's conviction never sat right with White's widow or with police.

Police contacted the Ohio Innocence Project on Tinney's behalf.

That started a legal process that eventually put the decision in a judge’s hands.

Richland County Judge James DeWeese granted Tinney’s motion to withdraw his guilty plea.

Prosecutors have 14 days to decide whether to prosecute Tinney a second time.
