Franklin County Sheriff’s deputies said that one of their deputies was injured on Wednesday afternoon after a traffic stop turned violent.
According to deputies at the scene, a deputy tried to pull over a man, identified as 28-year-old Fredy Lopez, near Murray Hill Road and Dolan Place just before 2 p.m.
Deputies said that the man who they tried to pull over pulled into a driveway and then entered into a physical fight with the deputy, who was punched and lost a tooth during the fight.
According to witnesses at the scene, the deputy was wrestled to the ground. The deputy tore the shirt off the man who then fled the scene.
Jessica Hamill said that she witnessed the incident.
“He tried to take him down, and when they did, they kind of tumbled on each other and then they were wrestling for a little bit and the guy got up and the officer was able to pull his shirt up over his head and then he started running, and it looked like the officer was hurt,” Hamill said.
A good description of the man deputies were searching for was not immediately released.
Officials said that a K9 unit brought to the scene found $12,000 worth of heroin in the vehicle that was left at the scene.
