A large crash closed Interstate 270 south at Cleveland Avenue on the northeast side Monday morning.
The road was closed between I-71 and S.R. 161, and many of the entrance ramps were closed to I-270.
According to Blendon Township police, 29 vehicles were involved in the crash that occurred shortly after noon. The road was closed until about 2:15 p.m.
At least 4 people were transported to local hospitals with injuries from the crash. The names and conditions of those people were not immediately released.
The Ohio Department of Transportation was called to the scene to assist with icy conditions.
According to investigators, a combination of black ice and blowing snow led to the crash.
Drivers told 10TV News that it was a near white-out, and many stopped on the freeway until the storm stopped. Other drivers, who witnesses said were driving too fast, rear-ended some of the stopped vehicles, leading to the crash.
“I managed to miss the car in front of me, but the car in back of me slammed into me and I spun and hit the wall,” said driver Laquisha Wright.
Sheriff’s officials said that six people were cited for contributing to the multi-vehicle crash.
