Police said that a report of an armed person on the grounds of Taft Elementary School in Marion on Thursday was false.
According to school officials, Taft was placed on lockdown at about 9:30 a.m. after a student reported seeing someone with a gun while on the playground.
School officials said that they brought students inside and locked the doors of the school, located on Robinson Avenue, as a precaution.
Police said that after interviewing the students, it was found that no one saw anyone with a gun and that the report grew from a student’s story.
