A woman and a dog were injured in a house fire in Hilliard Wednesday evening.

The Norwich Township Fire Chief said the fire sparked inside a home in the 3200 block of Scioto Farms Drive around 7:30 p.m.

Firefighters rescued Lisa Howells from the second floor.

"They basically used ladders from the top story to break the windows and then smoke billowed out," said Connie Wagner, a neighbor.

Howells was taken to the OSU Wexner Medical Center. Fire officials said she would survive her injuries.

Firefighters also pulled a dog out of the home. They put it on a stretcher and covered it in a sheet. The dog was taken to the OSU Veterinary Medical Center.

The Hilliard Police Department was also on scene Wednesday night. Officers roped off the home while arson investigators began their investigation.

Fire officials said they found gas cans inside the home.

The cause of the fire was unknown Wednesday night.
