Friends Say Double Shooting At East Side Restaurant Represents Bigger Problem

UPDATED: Wednesday January 16, 2013 11:18 AM

One person is dead and another person is hospitalized after a shooting at an east side restaurant.

According to police, two people were shot at the Wendy’s restaurant, located on Livingston Avenue, at about 4:30 p.m.

One of the people shot was pronounced dead at the scene. Another person was taken to Grant Medical Center in critical condition.

A restaurant employee said that he heard eight or nine shots fired.

Donald Cosner, the owner of the drive-thru convenience store next door to the restaurant, said that he ducked when he heard the multiple shots fired.

“I was waiting on a customer, and I heard eight or nine gunshots,” Cosner said. “While I was waiting on somebody right in here.”

Investigators said that it was not immediately clear what led to the shooting, and officers were still searching for the shooter.

Many friends and family members rushed to the scene of the shooting.

One woman, who said that she did not want to be on camera because she feared for her safety, said that the shooting represented a bigger problem.

“It’s just too much gun outrage,” the woman said. “It’s just senseless.”

Cosner said that he was thinking about making a change to protect himself from violence.

“Kind of makes me want to switch jobs, that’s for sure,” Cosner said. “A little too close.”

Investigators said that the second person shot likely would survive.

The names of those shot were not immediately released.
