Fire officials are investigating a fire that was set on a historic bridge on Ohio University's Lancaster campus.
The fire caused around $20,000 damage to the John Bright Number 2 covered bridge.
A person on the Lancaster City Bike Trail reported the fire early Tuesday morning.
"The fire was set at the intersection of structural members about mid-span on the bridge. Some assessment will need to be done to determine if a main beam will need replaced. Two to four joists and areas of decking will need replaced," said Lancaster Campus Dean Jim Smith.
The historic bridge was built in 1881 and was relocated to OU-L in 1988.
The bridge will be closed to the public until further notice.
