A teen was recovering on Thursday evening at a Columbus hospital after a multi-vehicle crash in Licking County.
According to the Granville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a Southwest Licking Local Schools bus, driven by 67-year-old Robert Adams, was stopped waiting to turn left into the Willowbrooke Mobile Homes Park near U.S. Route 40 and Watkins Road when it was struck from the behind by 17-year-old Taylor Whitney.
Troopers said Whitney’s Mitsubishi Eclipse was struck by a 205 Hyundai Elantra driven by 17-year-old Matthew Reddy. His vehicle was struck by a 1991 Chevrolet Lumina, driven by Seth Casto, 17. Casto’s vehicle was struck by a 1996 Saturn, driven by Kaisee Handley.
According to the OSP, 17-year-old Handley was not wearing her seatbelt and was partially ejected through the front window of the vehicle. She was taken by medical helicopter to Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus.
She was the only person transported from the scene, officials said.
OSP officials said that black ice likely was a factor in the crash, which remained under investigation.
There were 18 students on the school bus at the time of the crash, but no one was injured.
