Riverside Methodist Hospital announced on Wednesday that it has been named a Comprehensive Stroke Center.

According to a release from OhioHealth, Riverside is the first hospital in the state to receive the designation from The Joint Commission.

Riverside meets the commission’s standards for disease-specific care Comprehensive Stroke Center Certification, which means it is part of an elite group of providers in the nation focused on complex stroke care, according to OhioHealth.

The certification comes as Riverside is constructing a new patient tower focused on neuroscience.

The new 224-bed tower is slated to be complete in 2015.
