One person was killed and multiple people were hospitalized after a crash south of New Lexington on Monday evening.
According to Ohio State Highway Patrol officials, one person was pronounced dead after the two-vehicle crash that occurred just after 5:30 p.m.
Officials said that the crash closed the intersection of state Route 93 and Marietta Road in the Wayne National Forest.
Troopers said that Gary W. Vore, 41, of Jacksonville, was traveling south on S.R. 93 when his vehicle went left of center and struck a 2003 Chevrolet Impala, driven by Linda E. Spangler, 67, head-on.
Vore was pronounced dead at the scene. Vore’s passenger, 18-year-old Kyle A. Wright, was hospitalized with minor injuries.
Spangler was taken by medical helicopter to Grant Medical Center in Columbus in critical condition.
Robert F. Spangler, a passenger in her vehicle, also was taken to Grant Medical Center in critical condition. Fellow passenger Jeremy W. Cox, 24, of Athens was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital where he was recovering.
Vore was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The crash was under investigation.
