A 190-bed shelter in Franklin Township is set to open in the midst of great need.
The shelter, open to men and women, will be located at 511 Industrial Mile Road and will operate during the winter months beginning Monday.
Community Shelter Board officials said that the number of homeless people in Columbus is growing and the average age of someone experiencing homelessness in the city is 9-years-old.
"As the winter goes on, more and more people need shelter from the cold, so this shelter is important to get open so everyone is safe," said Michelle Heritage of the Community Shelter Board.
Neighbors near the new shelter have expressed concern because the shelter is located near a daycare.
The opposing sides worked together to work out an agreement.
