Crews said that they contained an underground gas leak found on the west side early Friday.

According to fire crews on the scene, the gas leak was found near a warehouse at Phillipi and Janitrol roads, north of West Broad Street, at about 6 a.m.

A strong smell of gas was reported in the area.

Crews said that no one was inside of the warehouse, but there were people inside neighboring buildings.

Officials said that they found the source of the underground leak shortly before 7 a.m. and were bringing in equipment to access the possible ruptured line.

A permanent fix was being made.
