Columbus Police officials have released the name of the officer involved in a shooting Thursday night.
Authorities said Officer Joseph Valiski is a seven-year veteran.
The incident occurred on Forest Street, between Heyl Avenue and Carpenter Street, at about 6:30 p.m.
Police said that the shooting occurred after officers responded to a home about shots being fired and saw a number of people running from a home on Heyl Avenue.
One person, identified as Thomas M. Bell II, was shot by police and was taken to Grant Medical Center in critical condition. As of early Friday, Bell was recovering from his wounds.
Bell also was wanted on an outstanding warrant for driving under the influence, police said.
The shooting remained under investigation.
