Ohio State University Pulled Into Steubenville Rape Controversy

UPDATED: Friday January 4, 2013 8:37 PM

Criticism is growing against Ohio State University with many people blasting the school through online comments.

The users said they are upset at the school for not expelling a student seen in a video joking about the rape.

But Ohio State has told 10TV that the teen is no longer an OSU student.

The outrage intensified on Thursday after a video was released online.

In it, you can hear a teen wearing an Ohio State t-shirt mock the victim in the case.

“She's deader than Obi Wan Kenobi after Darth Vader cut his head off. That's how dead she is,” said the teen.

The 18-year-old rants for 12 minutes on the video.

It was the t-shirt and the confirmation in the video that the teen attended Ohio State that led to an outcry on the university’s Facebook page.

Comments included calls to remove the student, saying "that kid should be gone" and "shame on OSU for taking so long to expel him."

There were dozens of comments, minutes apart throughout the day.

In fact, there was another Facebook page created specifically to expel the teen, and it had 1,500 “LIKES” by mid-day.

By noon, the teen's name in the student directory was gone and the university released a statement.

"What we can confirm is that the Ohio State student in question was in attendance only through December 12,” it read.

While the teen’s remarks are offensive, the question remains, were his actions criminal?

Attorney General Mike Dewine, whose office is prosecuting the case, isn't saying.

“You watch that thing for 12 minutes as I did yesterday, it's just disgusting. We will prosecute anyone who we believe is guilty of a crime. That's all I can say at this point,” said DeWine.

The school has not said if the teen was expelled from the university or left voluntarily in December.
