For the first time since the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., the school's young students are back in class today.

But they haven't returned to the scene of the shooting.

They're attending classes at a refurbished school in the nearby town of Monroe.

"We will be doing a normal day,” said the superintendent.

To give the students a sense of continuity, desks and other familiar objects were brought to the building from the Sandy Hook.

Counselors were also on hand, and parents were allowed to spend the day at the school if they wished.
