All dogs and cats in Columbus and Franklin County are required to be vaccinated against rabies, and Columbus Public Health officials are trying to make it easier to do so.
The health department will offer $10 vaccines for dogs and cats more than 12 weeks old on Jan. 9 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Thompson Recreation Center, 1189 Dennison Ave. The department will only accept cash.
Dogs and cats between 3 months and 1 year will receive one-year tags, and older pets with proof of prior shots will receive three-year tags.
Rabies is a viral disease that affects the nervous system is nearly always fatal, according to the health department.
