Columbus Police say no officers were injured in a shooting on S. 17th Street. Get the story.
The Columbus Division of Police confirmed for 10TV News on Thursday that an officer shot a person.
According to police, the incident occurred on Forest Street, between Heyl Avenue and Carpenter Street, at about 6:30 p.m.
Police said that the shooting occurred after officers responded to a home about shots being fired and saw a number of people running from a home on Heyl Avenue.
One person, identified as Thomas M. Bell II, was shot by police and was taken to Grant Medical Center in critical condition, according to police. As of early Friday, Bell was recovering from his wounds.
The officer was uninjured.
Columbus police said that the original call about shots being fired appeared to have resulted from a domestic dispute between Bell and a woman who was inside of the home.
The woman filed for and was given a protection order against Bell earlier on Thursday. The order had not been served at the time of the shooting.
Bell also was wanted on an outstanding warrant for driving under the influence, police said.
The shooting remained under investigation.
