Friends Gather To Remember Man Killed On New Year’s Day

Investigators continue to look for a driver who struck and killed a 24-year-old man New Year’s Day.

On Thursday, friends and family gathered at Plank’s Cafe to honor the memory of Jake Zang.

Zang was killed when he was struck walking along Cassady Avenue in East Columbus on New Year’s morning.

He was found unresponsive along the side of the road.

According to authorities, the driver of the vehicle did not stop.

The Thursday event included a fundraiser to help the family pay for the funeral. Zang leaves behind nine siblings.

“It takes a little of the pressure off,” said friend Stephanie Himes. “We have some hard times coming up the next couple of days with the wake and funeral, so it’s nice to come together in a lighter atmosphere and try to remember the good memories we have about him.”

One person told 10TV that it’s not just about the money. It is about remembering Jake at his weekly poker game.

“The event came from playing poker each week. We figured it'd be better to remember him here than cancel the game,” said Travis Ouellette.

Anyone with information about the hit and run is asked to call authorities.
