Deputies are investigating a fatal hit-skip crash that occurred New Year's Day.

According to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, 24-year-old Jacob Zang was walking along Cassady Avenue, near Drake Road, when he was struck by a driver at about 4:35 a.m. Jan. 1.

Zang, of Pickerington, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials said that they believed Zang was struck by an unknown vehicle traveling northbound on Cassady Avenue. The two lane road has no sidewalks an is not well lit.

Community members tell 10TV that Zang was a former Bishop Hartley football player and wrestler who graduated in 2007. He was the oldest of 10 children.

Zang gave back to his community by continuing to coach kids in a local wrestling program.

A vigil is planned Friday with his funeral service scheduled Saturday morning at the Seton Parish on Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family is encouraging friends to donate to the Bishop Hartley Athletic Association in Jake's memory.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the sheriff's office at 614-525-6113.  Watch 10TV News and refresh 10TV.com for more information.
