Columbus: Residents Responsible For Snow On Sidewalks

UPDATED: Friday December 28, 2012 5:47 PM

While it is pretty to look at, it's best not to let the snow pile up in front of your home. Snow removal is a resident’s responsibility.

Columbus city officials want to remind residents that if a sidewalk abuts a resident’s property, it is his or her responsibility to clear the public pathway.

The city code is in effect for businesses, also. It includes your sidewalk, driveway apron, and any wheelchair ramps in front of your home or business.

If you rent, then it's your landlord's responsibility unless you have an agreement.

If you don't shovel, the city's 311 call center told 10TV that you could face not only a fine, but you could be held liable if someone falls and is injured.

COTA is responsible for keeping areas around bus shelters clear of snow.
