One person is dead after a two-vehicle crash near Pataskala on Christmas Eve.

According to the Licking County Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, two vehicles crashed along Watkins Road shortly before 8 p.m.

Officials said that a car was stopped along Watkins Road after becoming stuck in a snow embankment. The driver of the vehicle, 72-year-old Roy Rose, got out of the vehicle to check on it when he was struck.

Rose was taken to Grant Medical Center, where he died.

A 73-year-old female passenger in the vehicle that was struck was taken to Grant Medical Center. The driver of the vehicle that struck the stopped vehicle was taken to Mount Carmel East Hospital. Both were expected to survive.

Investigators said that the driver would not be charged.

Watkins Road, between Lake Drive and Refugee Road, was closed for more than two hours because of the crash.

Officials said that they believed the foggy weather could have been a factor in the crash.

The names of those involved were not immediately released.

The crash remained under investigation.
