The Ohio Highway State Patrol was watching closely for impaired drivers over the weekend.
Troopers told 10TV News that the last week of the year can be particularly dangerous on the roadways. Lt. Anne Ralston said the Highway Patrol has generally seen an increase in drinking and driving around Christmas and New Year's Day.
"That's going to continue to be our focus throughout the remainder of 2012. Making sure that we do whatever we can do as a law enforcement agency to get those dangerous drivers off our roadways," Lt. Ralston said.
According to Ralston, eight people died in alcohol-related crashes on Ohio's roads last year from Christmas Eve to New Year's Day.
The Highway Patrol was urging anyone who might witness a dangerous driver or any illegal activity on roadways to dial #677 if using a cell phone.
