Highways Closed, Airports Delayed As Storm Socks Middle Of U.S.

UPDATED: Thursday December 20, 2012 5:58 PM

Parts of an interstate highway in Missouri are closed, as the first major snowstorm of the season continues its eastward march.

Forecasters are warning of blizzard conditions from Kansas to Wisconsin.

Drivers in Iowa and Nebraska were warned to be careful or stop driving altogether as the first major winter storm of the season heads into the central Plains.

Strong winds created blizzard conditions.

The storm has left at least three people dead. And it's threatening to disrupt some of the nation's busiest airports ahead of the holiday weekend.

Some parts of Wisconsin already have had about 10 inches from overnight. A wide swath from northern Missouri to Wisconsin is likely to see up to a foot as well.

One meteorologist says another storm similar to this one could bring additional snow on Christmas or the day after.
