Columbus City School officials say that Whetstone High School was placed under lockdown Wednesday morning.
Sources told 10TV News that there was a search for a gun at the building, located off Henderson Road. Crews did not find anything, and the lockdown was downgraded from a Level 2 to a Level 1 shortly after noon.
Authorities said a student witnessed another student with a gun and was able to describe the firearm in detail.
It was eventually determined that the student accused of having the gun was not in school today.
A Level 1 lockdown means students are allowed to function as normal inside of the locked building.
There were no reports of injuries. Police were searching for the student alleged to have the gun.
