Organizers of a toy drive called Cruise for Tots decided to launch another effort on behalf of children in Newtown, Conn.
Josh Moore said what began with a simple post on Facebook quickly led to a collection of more than 500 teddy bears over the weekend.
Cruise for Tots was planning to keep collecting toys through Thursday, Dec. 20. Members were then going to drive the donated items to Newtown on Friday.
The group was coordinating where to deliver the donation with the Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company.
Two drop-off sites were established in Newark: Rising Tide Tattoo at 11 North 21st Street and LCS Auto Services at 80 Union Street.
