Thieves Take Tools Worth Thousands From Chillicothe Business

The Ross County Sheriff's Office is looking for at least two people involved in an early morning burglary at a Ross County business.

Deputies said thieves stole tens of thousands of dollars worth of tools and more from Murphy Tractor and Equipment Company in Chillicothe.

"Came back, pried through here, crawled in through here,” said John Meeks, Murphy Tractor and Equipment Company.

Meeks said that thieves used the same method to break into two different buildings on the Murphy Tractor and Equipment Company property.

"Get a job if you're going to work this hard. Get a job because you had to take some time to do this,” added Meeks.

Meeks says they also broke the locks on 2 of three storage containers.

"You can see where they've twisted this one real bad,” he added.

They also broke into the main workshop area.

Once inside, Meeks said the thieves ransacked the toolboxes and took an estimated $60-70,000 worth of tools and equipment.

Meeks said the crime is a major setback for his employees. The company sells and repairs John Deere equipment that requires thousands of dollars worth of tools to fix.

“We had customer calls that we needed to go on today where I don't have the tools to go and work on this stuff,” said Meeks.

Meeks is hoping a surveillance image of what appears to be a man and a woman and footprints that were left will help deputies find the suspects.

In the meantime, Meeks says his employees will do their best to keep working with what tools they still have.
