A trial is scheduled to start Thursday for three law enforcement officials charged in the death of a man who died after being dropped off at a Taco Bell.

Deputy Derek Beggs, Deputy Christopher Hughes and Trooper Sean Carpenter were charged with dereliction of duty in the Delaware County Municipal Court.

On Wednesday, a judge denied a lawyer's motion to have the three tried separately.

The charges follow an investigation into the law enforcement officials dropping a man, identified as Uriel Juarez-Popoca, off at a Delaware County Taco Bell in August.

Juarez-Popoca was first picked up after officials said he was drunk in his vehicle.

Shortly after Juarez-Popoca was dropped off at the restaurant, he was struck and killed along U.S. Route 36.
