Chillicothe city leaders are considering proposals to avoid laying off four firefighters as they make budget cuts.

According to The Chillicothe Gazette, the Fire Chief for Chillicothe suggested several steps to spare those positions.

Among the ideas: charging for fire inspections, charging for a third response to a false fire alarm and using federal grants to help cover the firefighter costs.

City leaders are still considering ways to trim the budget this week, and planned to meet again Thursday.
