New Lexington police are searching for a man who prompted a lockdown at all New Lexington City Schools on Tuesday.
According to New Lexington police, a man arrived at the police station at about 9:30 a.m. to file a report against his grandson in connection with allegedly assaulting and threatening him along the 700 block of Center Street.
Police said that there were concerns that the grandson had access to firearms, so the schools were placed on lockdown at about 11:30 A.M.
Police said that they searched the scene and found that all firearms were secured inside of a home.
The schools' lockdown was lifted at about 1:30 p.m.
10TV News crews saw officers searching a wooded area about a mile from the schools, but they would not say who they were searching for.
Police said that they had a name and description of the man but did not immediately release it.
A description was passed on to other law enforcement agencies.
Parent Jed Harris said that he was never concerned about his child's safety.
"I'm concerned anytime this happens," Harris said. "It's unfortunate stuff like that does happen, but as far as the school goes, I think it acted in a correct way."
