Man Accused Of Raping Newark HS Student Faces Charges In Connection With Second Victim

UPDATED: Friday December 7, 2012 5:17 PM

A man accused of raping a 15-year-old girl is facing additional charges in connection with a second alleged victim.

Zakery A. Neldon, 23, was charged in October with raping a Newark High School student while she was walking to school on Oct. 9.

Newark Police said it was Neldon's arrest in that suspected rape that prompted another alleged victim to come forward.

Authorities said that a 44-year-old woman claims Neldon raped her on July 1.

"He presented a pair of scissors (and) forced her into a wooded area," said Sgt. Scott Snow.

Just like with the incident involving the 15-year-old, Neldon now faces charges kidnapping and rape charges.

Police said a second victim coming forward is crucial when it comes to a judge and jury deciding if there is a pattern of behavior.

They said that they are not ruling out the possibility of additional victims.

"We certainly go on the assumption if he's done it twice, there's a high probability that he's done it more than that," said Snow.

Police are asking for any additional victims to come forward and notify them.

Meanwhile, Neldon is being held in the Licking County Justice Center on $1 million dollar bond.

He is scheduled to be arraigned next week on the new charges and to go on trial next month for the first set of charges.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Newark Division of Police at 740-670-7200.
