Gov. John Kasich welcomed home nearly 1,500 members of the Ohio National Guard on Sunday.

The members of the Ohio National Guard 37th Infantry Brigade Combat Team came home after a year-long deployment in Afghanistan and Qatar.

The members are part of two Springfield-based units.

“She was 3 months when I first left, then I came back, then I had to go again, and I missed her first step, her first word,” said Travis Stewart of the 37th Infantry Brigade Combat Team. “It’s so great being back to be part of her life finally.”

The servicemen provided security for multiple bases while they were deployed.
