Woman Dead After Crashing Into Utility Pole

A 32-year-old woman died early Saturday morning after her vehicle struck a utility pole.

According to Zanesville police, April L. Smythe died of her injuries after her vehicle struck the pole near 1068 Linden Avenue. She had been traveling northbound on Linden Avenue at the time of the crash at about 5:30 a.m.

Smythe was taken to Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital, where she later died.

Another person in the vehicle fled from the scene and could not immediately be located by police.

Anyone with information about the crash, which is still under investigation, is asked to call the Zanesville Police Department at 740-455-0700.
