Suspected Drunken Driver Leads Police On High-Speed Chase

UPDATED: Thursday November 29, 2012 6:24 PM

A suspected drunken driver was arrested early Thursday morning after leading police on a high-speed chase.

Police said that the driver, identified as Dustin R. Hall, was first spotted going the wrong way around 4 a.m.

Video from a Hilliard police cruiser showed the chase starting with Hall driving through a red light and turning the wrong way on Cemetery Road.

Hall makes a U-turn, and the officer does the same.

“As you can see from the video, very minimal amount of traffic, so there was not a substantial danger to the public,” said Deputy Chief Robert Fisher, Hilliard Police.

The chase reached speeds of around 100 mph.

A WBNS-10TV camera was there when police caught up with Hall on Interstate 270 near I-70 on the west side.

Once stopped, the driver resisted but eventually got out of his vehicle, dash camera showed.

As officers told Hall to get the on ground, he yelled at them to “shoot me then,” followed by an expletive.

Hall was eventually taken into custody after the officer used pepper spray on him.

The responding Hilliard officer said he believed Hall could be under the influence of drugs.

But he said Hall tested at a 0.09, which is over the legal limit for alcohol.

He was charged with an OVI, obstructing justice, speeding and running a red light.

There were no reports of injuries.
