A 92-year-old woman became a victim of theft while grocery shopping at the Meijer on Hilliard Rome Road in west Columbus.
Thieves pulled up behind Evelyn Moore, who was unloading her groceries, and grabbed the purse she put on the cart.
“I took my purse off my shoulder, hung it on the side of my car and then started unloading my groceries,” she said.
The crime happened so quickly, Moore did not know it happened.
“So, I’m rushing back to the store to find out if, possibly, I could have left it there,” Moore said.
A witness told Moore that four men in a maroon SUV swiped her purse and then took off.
The crooks wasted little time with the stolen loot. As soon as they left the Meijer store, they traveled to a nearby Shell station to buy gas.
“I was, total shock, I just felt like I was in another world,” Moore said. “This isn’t happening to me, you know?”
WBNS-10TV has tracked similar thefts in Dublin, Upper Arlington, Grove City, Blendon Township and Gahanna.
Moore said that she would not let the crooks slow her down.
“I'm not going to let it scare me,” Moore said. “I've still got some living to do.”
It was not clear if surveillance cameras caught the crime.
