Man Accused Of Stealing Credit Cards From Locker Rooms Locked Up

Powell detectives said that police arrested a man believed to be responsible for nearly a dozen thefts from area gyms.

Joshua Johnson was being held at the Franklin County Jail, accused of stealing credit cards from locker rooms at gyms in Powell, Westerville, Pickerington and Grove City.

“Sometimes, it was an unlocked locker, sometimes secured, sometimes he would actually go to the car and get their wallets,” said Det. Ryan Pentz of the Powell Police Department.

Detectives said that Johnson was captured on surveillance video using the stolen credit cards across central Ohio.

Johnson allegedly racked up nearly $20,000 in fraudulent charges.

Pentz said that Johnson was a successful thief because he was a fitness buff, fitting into his surroundings.

“As he would walk through the gym, he would talk to people,” Pentz said. “He knew a lot about fitness, so it was a great place for him to go and prey upon people.”

Johnson was being held in jail on a parole violation. He could face more than 20 felony charges in connection with the thefts.
