Driver Who Crashed Into House May Be Connected To Refund Scam

UPDATED: Tuesday November 27, 2012 7:43 AM

Police continued Tuesday to look for a driver who crashed into a home, narrowly missing a child.

WBNS-10TV has learned that the car may have been connected to multiple crimes.

Police had been searching for the white Ford Explorer in connection with a refund scam targeting central Ohio gas stations. On Monday, they found the vehicle wedged into a house along Cherry Creek Parkway South.

Family members said that a young boy was sitting in the room that was struck just moments before a white SUV crashed into it.

Sunbury police confirmed that Douglas Wayne Hart is the same man who fled from police over the weekend.

His girlfriend, Heather Johnston was charged with attempted theft. She was accused of attempting to defraud Kroger of $275 in cash refunds and other merchandise.

The SUV Hart crashed was registered to Johnston.

Hart has a warrant for his arrest out of Madison County for theft. He was not in custody as of Tuesday morning.
