Columbus police responded to a report of a possible grenade found in north Columbus.
According to police, a man digging said that he found the device near Cleveland and 21st avenues shortly before 2 p.m.
The Columbus Bomb Squad was called to the scene and found the device. It was unknown if it was a live explosive.
21st Avenue was closed west of Cleveland Avenue for investigation, police said.
Bomb squad officials said that they removed the grenade and would blow it up at an undisclosed location.
There were no immediate reports of injuries.
