For the second year, WBNS-10TV is teaming up with the Salvation Army, Walmart and WCOL for "A Helping Hand for the Holidays," a campaign designed to provide toys and food for central Ohio families in need.
"A Helping Hand for the Holidays" is designed to grow The Salvation Army's Christmas Cheer program into a market-wide holiday experience.
One week before Christmas, The Salvation Army will convert the DiSalle Center at the Ohio State Fairgrounds into a toyshop and food pantry. Thousands of volunteers will help parents choose a toy for their children a stock a box with fixings for a holiday meal for each family.
Beginning Nov. 24, 10TV and WCOL will ask viewers to stop at their local Walmart store to donate new and unwrapped toys or make cash contributions.
10TV will host a daylong phone bank during broadcasts of 10TV News throughout the day on Wednesday, Dec. 5 from 6 a.m.-11:30 p.m.
Donations to the phone bank on Dec. 5 can be made by calling 614-821-1010 or 1-877-220-1010. Donations also can be made online at www.10TV.com/HelpingHand.
A donation of $15 can purchase a toy for a child. A donation of $30 will provide a complete holiday meal for two families.
All proceeds from the phone bank will go directly to the purchase of toys and food.
92.3 WCOL will host a special one-day drive on Saturday, Dec. 8 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Hilliard Walmart store, located at 5200 West Pointe Plaza. Central Ohioans are invited to stop with a toy and meet some of their favorite WCOL personalities and register to win a $50 Walmart gift card.
On Monday, Dec. 17, 10TV will follow a convoy of trucks from the Hilliard Walmart to the fairgrounds beginning on 10TV News at Noon. The convoy will be live streamed on 10TV.com.
The drop-off will be seen during WBNS-10TV News’ 90-minute newscast, beginning at 5 p.m.
