Chillicothe's fire chief asked for a voluntary demotion just two months after getting his job back.

Chief Bruce Vaughan was fired in April after an internal investigation.

Chillicothe Mayor Jack Everson recommended that Vaughan be fired after an investigation into the use of expired oxygen tanks.

In September, the Chillicothe Civil Service Commission voted to reinstate Chief Vaughan, and he returned to the job.

Mayor Everson said Tuesday that Chief Vaughan asked for a voluntary reduction in rank, citing personal reasons.

Assistant Fire Chief Jeff Creed is now serving as interim fire chief. He also held the position from April to September while the department did not employ Vaughan.
