One person is hospitalized after a train struck a car Monday night in Marion.

Marion police said the car tried to go around a crossing gate on Silver Street and was struck by the train.

Investigators said the Norfolk Southern train hit the passenger side of the car causing it to travel between 75 and 100 feet.

The woman was transported to Marion General Hospital with minor injuries.

Investigators said the woman tried to move around the gate because she did not see the train.
